Library column This page provides links to other sites of possible interest and relevance to participants in this project as well as individuals interested in the general research topic of this project. The linkages to other sites from this site is selective. With few exceptions, the intent here is primarily to link to other sites that already provide a large number of linkages to related sites rather than to duplicate other people's efforts. The few sites that are linked here that do not provide general linkages to other sites are sites that cover core topics likely to be value to all participants and researchers in this area. Agency Linkages

Florida State University (FSU) - Florida State University is a public and coeducational institution. It is a senior member of the ten state universities that compose the State University System of Florida. The main campus of the University is located in Tallahassee, the state's capital.

National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) - the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing library and educational data.

Institute of Museum and Library Services(IMLS) - a federal grant-making agency that promotes leadership, innovation, and a lifetime of learning by supporting the nation's museums and libraries.

Libraries OnLine - Microsoft project to introduce Internet access to libraries in majority-minority areas.


Library Association Linkages

American Library Association - is the oldest and largest library association in the world, with more than 64,000 members. Its mission is to promote the highest quality library and information services and public access to information.

American Library Association/Office of Information Technology and Policy - (est. 1995) promotes the development and use of electronic access to information as a means to ensure the public's right to a free and open information society.

Black Caucus of the American Library Association - The Black Caucus of the American Library Association serves as an advocate for the development, promotion, and improvement of library services and resources to the nation's African American community; and provides leadership for the recruitment and professional development of African American librarians.

Chinese American Library Association - Provides links to information about chapters, scholarships, publications, programs, etc.

International Federation of Library Agencies - the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession.

The Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) - concerns itself with the planning, development, design, application, and integration of technology within the library and information environment, with the impact of emerging technologies on library service, and with the effect of automated technologies on people.

American Indian Library Association - Provides association information as well as links to other sources of information on Native and Minority library organizations.

Medical Library Association - The association is dedicated to improving the quality and leadership of the health information professional in order to foster the art and science of health information services.

Public Library Association - enhances the development and effectiveness of public library staff and public library services.

Reforma - National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking.

Special Libraries Association - is the international association representing the interests of thousands of information professionals in over seventy countries.

College of Information , Florida State University - The College of Information at The Florida State University is one of the top-ranked programs in the nation and has held this ranking for many years.


Library Organization Linkages

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation - was created in January 2000, through the merger of the Gates Learning Foundation, which worked to expand access to technology through public libraries, and the William H. Gates Foundation, which focused on improving global health.

Chief Officers of State Library Agencies (COSLA) - is an independent organization of the chief officers of state and territorial agencies designated as the state library administrative agency and responsible for statewide library development.

Library Research Services - is a unit of the Colorado State Library and the Colorado Department of Education that is operated in partnership with the Library and Information Services (LIS) Program, College of Education, University of Denver.


Geographic Information System Linkages

Federal Geographic Data Committee - ( http://www.fgdc.gov/) federal group coordinating many nation-wide GIS standards.

US Census Bureau - Links to International Statistical Agencies.

ESRI – is the world’s largest producer of geographic information system software (GIS) in the world. GIS combines layers of information about a place to give you a better understanding of that place.

gis_news_letter - A weekly summary of recently published GIS product and company news.

GeoPlace.com - publisher of GeoWorld magazine and developer of the Web portal.
